Closing Our Doors, but Leaving the Window Open

We have had the pleasure of sharing our creations in Second Life for a very long time, but it's time to change how we do that just a little bit. While it's a privilege to have a very large canvas to create on, it's also a big expense. We haven't been able to spend much time inworld at all this past year, with first life priorities taking the front seat. We sold our 5 sims and opened up a smaller presence on the mainland grid, but now it's time to close that too.

We aren't leaving. We love being able to create! However, since we are not able to do this very often at the moment, we'll be closing our inworld shops, but leaving our shops on Marketplace open to continue to share current releases, and any new goodies we are inspired to conjure up in the months ahead.

Not everything is available on Marketplace, nor will it be due to the constraints on our time, so you might want to take a peek in the inworld shops before we close them down later this week to snap up things like seasonal items, and the 75% off sale we've been running in our jewelry and landscaping departments.

We closed our shop on the InWorldz grid in December, so you'll no longer find our items available for sale there.

Our Marketplace web site shops will continue to be available at:

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/37272

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/37216

We'd like to tell you now just a little bit about what lies ahead ...

NEW POSE SYSTEM ON BOARD

We spent a number of months completely overhauling our basic pose system to make it more reliable, and to offer some robust new features that even landlords will love. If you are furnishing rental homes you'll appreciate the new system of "Add-Ons" and "Plug-ins" that not only allow you to dump unnecessary scripts once cosmetic changes are made, but also give your tenants a level of control over rezzables and other features without having to give them modify permissions on your items.

We hope you'll find the new system easier to use when it comes to both customizing animations, and also for tucking in new themed add-on packs as we release them.

This new system is available in the 2 new trees. We will also be updating a handful of existing furnishings to include this as a free update in the months ahead. Watch for an update to the Wingback Chairs and other Satis House collection features, with a bumper crop of new options.

On moving to the mainland we completely retooled our main shop to fit a smaller format. We frequently receive requests from people who wish to buy the building itself to use for their own shop. We will be making this available soon as a retail-ready prefab kit, along with the basic fixtures (including display counters, trees, hanging ivy and twinkle lights, stages and industrial lighting).

WHERE THE #$@! DID THE ANIMATIONS AND POSES GO???

When Linden Lab converted Marketplace fully to Direct Delivery, it was not without it's bugs. Unfortunately one of those bugs has rendered every single one of our pose and animation packs inactive, with no way to correct this. We have been working with them to get this function restored for quite some time, and recently received word that our bug report has finally been triaged. We hope to be able to make these items available for sale again soon. (As a rule, we're a pretty big fan of Direct Delivery. It rocks! Now if we can just get the rest of our items visible again, we'd do the happy dance ... )

FEATURES

The Nestling Tree and The Leaning Tree are high-detail, low-prim, season-changing trees that each gives you 5 different foliage choices, optional falling leaves and snow, a realistic earthen base and 46 animation sets that let you enjoy these natural beauties in lots of wonderful ways.

The trees' dispensables invite you to sit and drink tea under the cherry blossoms, kiss a loved one under the mistletoe, or snuggle up and let one of our interactive books read itself to you in the grass. The trees also dispense an interactive laptop that lets you surf the web or catch up on business when it's time to escape the office and work in the beautiful outdoors.

The Nestling Tree also arrives with a handful of optional add-ons tucked in, including a rustic wooden mailbox full of letters suspended from the bowers, a hungry squirrel perched with an acorn (and an extra one tucked in with a pinecone for the winter season), a songbird nestled in the mailbox, as well as an animated version with soundeffects that pecks at the ground, and one more tucked in with mistletoe in it's beak for good measure.

The Leaning Tree comes with one of our curious sheep, who likes to watch visitors pass by from the branches above, and a triptych of gently spinning origami paper cranes you can suspend from the bowers.

We created a robust new system to make it easy to manage these add-ons (as well as cosmetic plug-ins), and even tuck in some of your own, allowing you to easily extend the beauty and functionality of your trees at any time. It makes it easy to share cosmetic customization and even on-demand rezzables with individual or groups (ideal for landlords with tenants) without needing to give special rights on your own objects.

This new modular approach to our script and pose engines not only makes it easy to add new theme packs on, but also to jettison scripts that you no longer need to use after initial set-up, keeping the resource load light and respectful of sims.

Additionally, the add-on system lets you decide whether or not these optional pieces will be rezzed as regular prims, or temporary ones reducing the land impact on your parcel.

It's also super easy to change menu names and pose names, and to customize things like sit positions and rezzables through a simple set of notecards that let you completely customize how things should work. We give you lots of control, and try to keep it simple.

The Nestling Tree and The Leaning Tree are both copyable, and with their low prim count and feast of cosmetic options they offers you an easy way to create a landscape of variety, abundance and rich interactions in your favourite spaces.

DETAILED USER GUIDE

Looking for a little help setting up?

We've created a detailed, simple-to-use guide that tells you about the things you can do to customize and interact with your tree. You'll find it here on our web site.

NEW RELEASE: The Gatehouse Cottage Also Gets a Completely Winterized Companion

For people who want to deck their entire cottage out with snow and winterberries to match the blustery weather most of us are being treated to these days, a whole new version of the cottage is now available. This is sold separately, and at a discount of 75% off this week. You can preview it and pick it up near our original Gatehouse Cottage vendor inworld here.

L$4,725 on sale for only L$1,182

A couple of goodies that are arriving in this newest version of the cottage: the roof is now attached to the cottage, no longer requiring rezzing on startup; and, we've tucked optional snow drifts in that you can rez around the outside permiter of the cottage in case you're not on land where you control the terrain.

You can still pick up the original Gatehouse Cottage at this discounted price as well for the rest of this week.

PLEASE NOTE: While the original Gatehouse Cottage is available on our Marketplace website, it is not available at this 75% discount.

The Wintry version is not yet available on Marketplace.

You can also pick up the cottages and coordinating landscaping kits on the deck outside our main store.

FREE UPGRADE: The Gatehouse Cottage Gets a Snowy Roof

Yup. You heard right. At the beginning of January that cozy little homestead finally got it's wintry top. And with all this crazy first life weather, it's about time!

Throw another peat log on the fire and hit that update button, mate.

THIS IS A FREE UPDATE.

If you own the cottage, click on it's control panel (near the stairwell door) and hit the Update button. An update disc will be delivered to you. Set it on the cottage floor and touch it to begin the automated update of your cottage. The disc will tell you when the update is done. Then you'll simply have to hit the cottage control panel to bring up the menus and choose the Snowy Roof, or the Moss version when you're ready to switch back again.

NOTE: We've also made the roof and the doors modifiable now, to give you more control over the components. These updated versions will be installed automatically when you run the update disc.

We will also be releasing another free update shortly, attaching the roof to the cottage frame, as we did with the new Wintry Gatehouse Cottage companion, eliminating the need to rez it at start-up.

We look forward to being able to do a final free update to both cottages later this spring, tucking our brand new Add-On and Plug-in systems under the engine, giving you a great deal more control over rezzables, script lag reduction and some slick new management features that will make landlords happy.

SEASONS/FOLIAGE

HOW DO I CHANGE THE SEASONAL FOLIAGE?

  • Touch the tree to bring up the menu.

  • Press the [ admin ] button.

  • Press the [Plug-ins] button.

  • Press the Seasons button.

  • Press the button for the seasonal foliage you wish to display on the tree's canopy and clay-base.

HOW DO I TURN FALLING LEAVES AND SNOW OFF AND ON?

  • Touch the tree to bring up the menu.

  • Press the [ admin ] button.

  • Press the [Plug-ins] button.

  • Press the Leaf/Snow Fall button.

  • Press the Yes or No button to turn falling leaves and snow on or off.

If your tree is set to Spring, Summer or Autumn, selecting "Yes" from the menu will generate seasonally appropriate falling leaves. If you change the tree to winter, and this option is turned on, it will generate gently falling snow instead of leaves.

PROPS

There are two types of props:

  • Props that are rezzed when a specific animation is triggered, and dismissed when that animation is done.
  • Add-ons that are rezzed through the menus and stay put until explicitly dismissed.

For animation specific props, please look inside the pose notecards contained in the tree for examples of the different kinds of props that can be rezzed, and how to invoke them. Some are rezzed on their own. Others are dispensed directly to the sitter(s) and can be worn, such as drinks and books.

For add-on style props, such as squirrels, birds, mailboxes, mistletoe and paper cranes, here is how you can set them up:

HOW DO I REZ ADD-ON PROPS?

  • Touch the tree to bring up the menu.

  • Press the [ admin ] button.

  • Press the [Add-ons] button.

  • Press the button for the type of prop you wish to rez.

  • Press the button for the prop you wish to rez.

For more detailed information on add-ons, please see the Add-ons section later further down in this document.

POSES AND ANIMATIONS

HOW DO I SIT?

  • Right click on the tree to bring up it's context sensitive menu, and choose Sit Here.

WHEN WE CHOOSE A COUPLES POSE, WHO SITS FIRST?

  • By default the animations are set up to respond to the male being seated first.

WHAT IF WE SAT DOWN IN THE WRONG ORDER? DO WE HAVE TO STAND AND SIT DOWN AGAIN?

  • No. Simply press the [swap] button on the menu menu and

IT WON'T LET A SECOND PERSON SIT DOWN. WHY DOES IT KEEP THROWING THEM OFF?

  • Be sure to select a couples pose from the menu first, then try again.

I KEEP TOUCHING THE TREE TO TRY TO GET THE POSE MENU BACK, BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING.

  • First check to see if there is a small grey box in the upper right hand corner of your viewer. It's possible the menu system has been minimized. Touching the grey cube should bring the menu to the foreground again.

  • If this doesn't work, a sim reset or other problems may have caused the scripts inside of the tree to hiccough. This can be corrected by right clicking on the tree to go into edit mode, then selecting the following menu options from the menus at the top of Second Life viewer: Build -> Scripts -> Reset scripts. (Note: this will require the tree's owner, or someone who has modify rights on their objects).

I DON'T LIKE THE MALE BEING SEATED FIRST. CAN I CHANGE THIS?

  • Yes. Go into the notecard for each pose and move the female pose data to the line above the male pose. You'll want to do this for all of the notecards to that as you're cycling through poses it's consistent.

WHAT IF WE ARE BOTH MALES, OR BOTH FEMALES?

The tree ships with a default set of poses. The default couples poses are oriented toward a Masculine sitter and a Feminine sitter. You can create new pose combinations with the animations already in the tree by creating a new pose notecard and indicating which poses you want to use, and which positions they will be in. You can do this to create new Male-Male style combinations, new Female-Female sets, or additional Male-Female sets. The nice thing about our pose engine is that you have complete flexibility in adding new animations, or creating new combinations with the ones that are already available.

HOW DO I CHANGE POSES?

  • Touch the tree to bring up the main menu.

  • Press the POSES button

  • Press either 1. Feminine ... 2. Masculine ... 3. Couples ... depending on the type of animation you wish to select.

  • If a second person is going to sit, choose a Couples pose so that it does not deny them the ability to sit down.

WHILE IN A COUPLES POSE, OUR ANIMATIONS ARE OUT OF SYNC

  • Touch the tree to bring up the menu and press the [ sync ] button. This should synchronize the current couples animation you are in.

HOW DO I CUSTOMIZE ANIMATION POSITIONS AND ROTATIONS?

One of us is too high, too low, too close or too far apart. How do I change the default settings for a pose to fit me/us better?

Poses and pose sets are managed through a set of notecards.

  • Notecards with the prefix   **SOLO:POSES:   will contain the name of an animation file to trigger when a single person sits, and the position and rotation to place that sitter in relative to the tree. It may also contain a line of information telling the tree to rez a particular prop when this animation is triggered, or to offer the sitter some sort of dispensable prop that they can then wear, like a drink, or a book.

  • Couples combinations are managed by notecards with the prefix   *SET:POSES:   The first line will be invoked for the person who sat down first. The second contains the animation name, position and rotation for the second person who sat. There may also be an additional line of information for each or for both sitters rezzing or dispensing props.

Here's a bit of information to help you understand the formatting of lines of data in these notecards:

  • Lines beginning with // are ignored, and simply treated as comment lines providing information about what follows.

  • Lines beginning with ANIM tell the tree how to pose a sitter. The information in these lines is separated by a pipe symbol:   |   The pieces of information between these pipes include: animation file name | position of sitter | rotation of sitter | optional facial animation (left blank if none desired)

To customize the position and/or rotation of a particular pose, you'll need to use the built-in Adjust tool. Here's how:

  • Sit before invoking the pose.

  • Touch the tree while sitting to bring up main menu

  • Press the [ admin ] button.

  • Press the Adjust button. This will rez a long, rectangular red and green beam for each person seated.

  • Right click on this (these) beam(s) to edit it (them), then move or rotate it (them). This will move and rotate the sitter(s). As you do this the Adjust tool will report the new position and rotation information in the chat field.

  • When the sitter is in the proper position, copy this information from the chat field and paste it into the appropriate notecard, replacing the old data for that animation.

  • If there is object name or time stamp information before the word ANIM delete it.

  • If the chat field becomes too full of other text, you can press the PosDump button in the [ admin ] menu to ask the tree to report the most current position and rotation information again.

  • When you are done adjusting a pose, press the StopAdjust button in the [ admin ] menu to put the Adjust tool away.

PLEASE NOTE: when adjusting a multi-sitter pose set, sometimes positions will not be reported in order. Be sure the male setting appears before the female setting in the pose notecard in order to keep it consistent with the rest of your animations.

CAN I CONTROL FACIAL EXPRESSIONS?

You can invoke Second Life's own internal animations to add a level of realism to sleeping and other types of animations. These internal animations can be placed at the end of a line of data. You can invoke a single animation over and over again, or a sequence of animations by separating their names with commas.

Here is what a normal line of pose data might look like:

     ANIM|s_091|<-0 data-blogger-escaped-.04068="" data-blogger-escaped-0.02128="" data-blogger-escaped-0.93213="">|<-3 data-blogger-escaped--8.08901="" data-blogger-escaped-.96459="" data-blogger-escaped-0.56177="">|

The first piece of information is the text ANIM, which tells the tree that what follows is about an animation. The next is the name of the animation file inside of the tree's contents. The third field gives the sitter's position relative to the tree, followed by their rotation. While there is no information offered in fifth field in this example, following the final pipe   |   symbol, we could choose to type in the name of one of Second Life's internal animations if we want to make the sitter's face expressive.

Here are some examples of how a sitter's face might be more expressive

     // WITH SLEEPING FACIAL ANIMATIONS

     ANIM|s_091|<-0 data-blogger-escaped-.04068="" data-blogger-escaped-0.02128="" data-blogger-escaped-0.93213="">|<-3 data-blogger-escaped--8.08901="" data-blogger-escaped-.96459="" data-blogger-escaped-0.56177="">|express_disdain~express_disdain~express_disdain~express_bored

or perhaps ...

     // WITH SNORING FACIAL ANIMATIONS

     ANIM|s_091|<-0 data-blogger-escaped-.04068="" data-blogger-escaped-0.02128="" data-blogger-escaped-0.93213="">|<-3 data-blogger-escaped--8.08901="" data-blogger-escaped-.96459="" data-blogger-escaped-0.56177="">|express_bored~express_disdain~express_kiss

CAN I ADD NEW POSES OR CREATE NEW ANIMATION COMBINATIONS?

  • If you're adding an entirely new animation or pose, be sure to place the pose file into the tree's contents first.

  • Create a copy of an existing notecard to use as a template to add new poses or to create new combinations with poses that are already in the tree's contents.

  • Rename this copied notecard it to suit your new pose, and which menu it should appear under. You can try leaving the data that came in that card as is, and putting your new animation(s) name(s) in, then using Adjust to get the new settings when you move the new pose into the proper place. (See above).

I DON'T LIKE THE MENU NAMES, OR THE POSE NAMES IN THE MENUS. CAN I CHANGE THEM?

Yes! It's a simple as changing the names of the notecards for each pose. That's one of the nice things about our pose engine.

  • Each pose is managed by a notecard.

  • The pieces of that notecard's name dictate what menus and sub-menus it might appear on, and what it will be called.

  • The pieces of the pose menu are separated by a  :   symbol.

  • You can rename the notecard to change both the names of the menus, and also the pose.

  • You'll notice the last part of the notecard name is the pose itself, and everything leading up to that is the name of the menu/sub-menu(s) the pose will appear in.

Here's what you need to know if you're changing the names on pose notecards:

  • Single sitter pose notecards start with the following prefix:

         **SOLO:POSES:

Here's an example of a single sitter pose notecard name:

              **SOLO:POSES:2. Masculine:3. Lay:Stomach

This would create a button called "Stomach" under the "3. Lay" sub-menu of the "2. Masculine" menu system.

which would create a set of menu buttons to step through like this ...

              POSES -> 2. Masculine -> 3. Lay -> Stomach

  • Couples pose notecards start with the following prefix:

              *SET:POSES:

Here's an example of a couples pose notecard:

              *SET:POSES:3. Couples:Cuddle:Propped Kiss

which would create a set of menu buttons to step through like this ...

              POSES -> 3. Couples -> Cuddle -> Propped Kiss

Some limitations you'll need to be mindful of:

  • Buttons will be used to display menu and pose names. Most viewers can display about 14 characters on a button, so each menu name and pose name will need to be within this limit.

  • The longer names are, the more script memory is used. This can slow response time, and in some cases, where there are many poses in an item, can cause the scripts to run out of memory and crash. You might get the following error:

         "Script run-time error / Stack-Heap Collision"

If this happens you'll need to "edit" the item and choose the following menu options from the top of the Second Life viewer: Build -> Scripts -> Reset Scripts

CAN I CHANGE THE NAMES OF THE ACTUAL POSE FILES INSIDE OF THE TREE'S CONTENTS?

Yes.  However, please keep the following in mind:

  • The memory limitations we spoke of above are the reason we've created a short naming convention for the pose files. It uses less memory and keeps things running faster and more reliably.

  • We try to ensure that all of the poses in our products are modifiable so that you can change the names to something you find easier to remember if you wish. Ocassionally we license poses from other designers, and these poses may not be modifiable, so you won't be able to change the names on those.

  • If you do change the file name of a particular pose, remember to change it in that pose's notecard as well.

ADD-ONS

WHAT ARE ADD-ONS?

  • Add-ons are props stored inside of the tree's contents that can be rezzed on demand independently of poses. An add-on might be a table or chair, a pillow, or some other prop to expand the scene around the product.

  • Add-ons can be accessed through the [ admin ] menu, where you will find an [Add-ons] button allowing you to choose from whatever add-ons are available.

  • Add-ons are managed by notecards tucked into the trees contents. These notecards begin with the following prefix:

         [ADDON]:

  • While you have the ability to have props rez only when certain poses are selected (by tucking them into pose notecards), add-ons stay put.

  • This feature is particularly handy for landlords and other people who wish to share the optional rezzing and derezzing of objects with other people in a group. A script tucked into the add-on object allows a non-owner to touch the object and have the option of derezzing it without requiring modification privileges on the owner's items.

  • Another handy feature of the new add-on system is that, unlike props, it does not require an "open listen". That is to say the object doesn't need to keep a conversation open with the tree that rezzed it. This can significantly reduce lag on a sim. Too many open listens create lag. The add-ons script goes dormant until the object is touched again. Only then does it open a conversation with the tree that rezzed it. The object will close this conversation after 60 seconds of menu inactivity, again, protecting from lag.

A note about turning "temp rezzing" on in add-on settings ...

  • Another handy feature of add-ons is the ability to turn "temp rezzing" on or off through the add-on's settings notecard.

  • While temp rez items typically do not count against a parcel's prim count, each sim has a limited number of temp rez items it can handle. Once that limit has been hit, items will start counting against the parcel's prim count again.

  • An excessive number of temp rez items can cause lag. Temp rez items self-destruct a little less than a minute after they are rezzed, and have to be regenerated again. While this is automated by the pose system, that constant re-rezzing creates an additional load on a sim. If only a couple of items are set as temp rezzables, this is negligible. Many items requiring constant re-rezzing inevitably strain sim resources, creating lag. In the case of a sim with many different occupants, this can be problematic. One tenant may only make light use of temp rezzing, but if others are using temp rez objects, the cumulative effect is against the entire sim.

CAN I ADD MY OWN OBJECTS INTO THE TREE AS ADD-ONS?

I'd like to put my own add-ons into the tree. Is this possible?

It sure is. Just drop a copy of the following script into your item:

     ) AI ( Prop+Reztype+Listen Detect+Touch Validation v.030713.01

then drop it into the tree, and add an add-on notecard in for the item you want your tenants to be able to rez/derez on demand (see instructions a little further down in this note). The first time you rez the add-on you will need to move and rotate it into the position you want as this item's default. When you touch the item it will spit out it's coordinates in chat. You can place these into it's notecard so it knows where to rez from now on.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure the item is copiable so that it doesn't disappear from contents once it has been rezzed.

  • You will need modify rights on the object you want to treat as an add-on in order to put a script into it to manage it.

  • If the object already contains scripts that are activated when the object is touched, it may cause some confusion as both the native scripts will pop open their menu or dialogue, as will the add-on script you must put inside.

I'M A LANDLORD AND I'M USING THE TREE IN A RENTAL SPACE. CAN MY TENANTS MANAGE THE TREE'S ADD-ONS?

I'm a landlord and I'm using this product in a rental space. I want to give my tenants the ability to rez and derez add-ons without giving them modify rights on my objects. Can I do this?

  • If the tree is on a parcel that is set to a landgroup, make sure the tree is set to the same group.

  • Edit the following notecard, which you will find inside of the tree:

              ***>[list:managers]<***

You can add the tenant's name(s) into the notecard.

  • Alternatively, you can simply type the word GROUP in as the option if your tenants belong to the land group. This avoids having to add and delete individual names every time a tenancy changes.

Note: your tenants will need to have this group tag active in order to be recognized.

Whichever method you choose, when they touch an add-on they will have the option of de-rezzing it from the menu. If the object is set to a land group and your tenants are part of that group when they rent, you may wish to simply put the word GROUP inside this notecard so that anyone in the group has the ability to manage the item.

HOW DO I TELL THE TREE WHERE TO REZ MY NEW ADD-ON, OR CHANGE WHERE IT REZZES ONE OF THE ADD-ONS THERE NOW?

Add-ons are managed through notecards placed inside of the tree's contents. A notecard can be used to rez a single add-on, or a group of related add-ons. Here is an example of a notecard used to rez three different objects, and an explanation of how it is set up:

     # All lines beginning with "#" are comments, and are ignored.

     # List the items you want to rez in the following format.

     # Object Name

     # Position (relative to the root prim of the item rezzing it)

     # Rotation (also relative to the root prim)

     # rez as a temp or regular prim? 0 = temp 1 = regular

     # should the object constantly listen for parent commands once rezzed? 0 = no 1 = yes

     # *** NOTE: more than a couple of open listens can create significant lag on a sim.

     # Read the documentation that came with this product to better understand this option.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE POSITION AND ROTATION OF AN ADD-ON?

The default add-ons that arrive in your tree come with the following script inside:

     ) AI ( Prop+Reztype+Listen Detect+Touch Validation v.030713.01

Here's how to change the position and/or rotation that the item will rez in:

  • Touch the tree and press the [ admin ] button, then the [Add-on] button, and rez the item you want to update.

  • Position and rotate the item until it's where you want it to rez in the future. When you do this, the item will report it's new location in the chat field.

  • Open the notecard associated with this add-on.

  • Copy and paste the new location data for this item into the notecard.

Sometimes moving the item doesn't always result in it's new coordinates being reported in chat. If this is the case, you can still ask an item to tell you it's position at any time. Here's how:

  • Touch the item to bring up it's menu.

  • Press the ReportPosition button

You should now have the location information in chat so you can paste it into the add-on's notecard so it knows where to rez from now on.

PLUG-INS

WHAT ARE PLUG-INS?

  • Plug-ins are scripts that extend the functionality of the tree. are managed by notecards tucked into the trees contents. These scripts begin with the following prefix:

         [PLUGIN]:

CAN I CHANGE THE NAMES OF PLUG-INS?

  • Plug-ins are not modifiable.

MY PLUG-INS HAVE STOPPED WORKING.

  • If you change the names of some of the prims in an object, some plug-ins may stop working, as they often require explicit prim names to apply an effect to.

CAN I DELETE PLUG-INS?

Can I take a Plug-in script out if I'm never going to use it, or if I have my product set up the way I want it and I'm not going to change that particular aspect of it anymore?

  • Absolutely. Plug-ins are optional, and can be removed at any time without breaking the core functionality of the product. If you no longer want to change a particular feature and want to reduce the script load inside, but you think you might want to add it back in later, simply move the script out of the product and into a folder in your inventory so you can place it back in at a later time.

CAN I ADD MORE FEATURES TO A PLUG-IN?

  • Some plug-ins offer cosmetic options, such as texture changes, or seasonal foliage changes. From time to time we may release new plug-in packs offering additional collections. These will come as new plug-ins that can be dropped into your product and will then automatically show up as a new option on the [Plug-ins] menu.

CAN I DROP A PLUG-IN FROM A DIFFERENT PRODUCT INTO THIS ONE?

  • While some products may have companion sets, for instance trees with the same prim names and basic functionality, many products will not. Whether or not a plug-in from one product will be compatible with another will be listed in the product's documentation. In most cases plug-ins are specific to the product they were designed for, and will not work in other products.

SETTINGS

ARE THERE OTHER DEFAULT SETTINGS I CAN CHANGE ON THE TREE?

There are two additional functions that you can change the default behaviours on. This includes:

  • the distance around the tree that will be scanned before rezzing an add-on, and

  • an optional prop that is rezzed only when no one is sitting (for instance, a ghost or some other object of interest)

To change the default settings, edit the following notecard and make the changes you wish:

     ***>[settings]<***

Here is an example of what the contents of the settings notecard will look like:

// if an object with the same name already exists nearby.

// How many meters away should the chair scan?

     // (NOTE:  max = 96.0 )

     scan distance = 10.0

// the following prop will always be rezzed when no one is seated

// place nothing after the = symbol if nothing should be rezzed

     rez when no sitter =

     // EXAMPLE

     // rez when no sitter = Female Apparition Sitting in Chair|<0 data-blogger-escaped-.33946="" data-blogger-escaped-0.03898="" data-blogger-escaped-0.80286="">|<0 data-blogger-escaped--84.00201="" data-blogger-escaped-.00000="" data-blogger-escaped-0.00000="">

HOW DO I SHARE THE MANAGEMENT OF SETTINGS WITH OTHER PEOPLE?

  • If you want to give specific people or a particular group the ability to access the [ admin ] menus so they can change the settings on your product, you will need to update the following notecard in the tree's contents:

              ***>[list:managers]<***

Here is an example of what this notecard will look like, with instructions in the top comment lines (those beginning with # ) telling you how to use it:

              # --- ADD MANAGER NAMES BELOW, ONE PER LINE

              # or simply type the word GROUP to allow group administration

              # or ANYONE to allow anyone to access the admin menus

              # or leave blank if only the owner should have access

              GROUP

TROUBLESHOOTING

* HELPFUL TIP: Before making any significant changes to a product, it's a good idea to keep a clean copy of it somewhere in your inventory. That way if things go wrong you've got a back-up. If the product itself isn't copiable, make a copy of settings, pose and add-on notecards in a folder in your inventory somewhere so you've got the original settings to fall back on if things go awry.

  • I rezzed the tree but none of the poses or scripts work.

  • Please ensure that you have the ability to run scripts on the land you rezzed the tree on. If you rezzed the tree on a parcel of land that is group owned, please make sure the tree is set to the same group.

  • I stretched (or shrunk) the tree and now none of the poses or rezzables line up.

  • Sit on the tree then touch it to bring up the menus. Press the [ admin ] button then the Adjust button. This will rez the Adjuster tool so that you can reposition the poses to suit the new size of your tree. For additional help, please see the section on using the Adjust tool in the notes above.

  • I resized my tree and now the Add-ons don't rez in the right place. Can I fix this?

  • Absolutely. Simply move the add-on to the new position you want it to be in, then touch it and press the "Tell Position" button. This will give you information in chat. Copy and paste this into the notecard for that particular add-on, replacing what is there for it now. The add-on should now appear in the proper position next time you rez it.

You can do this for any of the add-ons if you simply want them to rez in a different spot.

  • What if I want to rez more than one of the same add-ons? When I try to do that, it tells me the object is already rezzed and won't rez another.

  • Take a copy of the add-on out of the tree's contents and drag it into your inventory. Rename it (for instance, Squirrel might be renamed Squirrel 2) and place it back into the tree (so now you will have both Squirrel and Squirrel 2 in contents). Open the notecard for that add-on. Copy the original, then paste it into a space below it on the notecard, ensuring to change the name of the object to match the new one. When you rez it the first time, it will be in the same position as the original add-on. Simply move it where you want it to be rezzed, then touch it and press the "Tell Position" button to get the updated information for this object. Replace the data for this item in it's notecard.

  • I stretched my tree and now it no longer seems to find all of the add-ons.

  • By default the tree has a "bounding box" of about 10 meters x 10 meters, and this is the area that the tree will scan before trying to rez an add-on. If you increase the size of the tree, you will want to increase the scan area in the Settings notecard that you will find in the tree's contents. Otherwise you may end up with duplicate items being rezzed.

  • The laptop that the tree dispenses defaults to the Alchemy Immortalis home page. I'd like to use the tree in my own shop, so I'd like to have the laptop go to my own web page/blog by default. Is this possible?

  • As the dispensables are copy and transfer, but not modify, you will not be able to do this yourself. If you wish to order a customized version of the laptop, please IM Alchemy Cyannis to ask for a quote.

  • I linked the tree to something else and now the poses are all off, and none of the Add-ons rez where they are supposed to. How do I fix this?

  • The easy way:

Unlink the tree trunk and then link it back into the link set so that it is the root prim.

    The hard way:

Drag the tree's contents to a folder in your inventory. Delete these items from the tree. Drag them into the root prim of the newly linked object. PLEASE NOTE: This means you will have to reposition every animation, and all Add-ons, and store the new data into their respective notecards.

InWorldz, Our Home Away from Home: A Letter from Immortalis

If you are in InWorldz now, have you left Second Life? Why did you move to InWorldz?

The short answers are "No, we have not left Second Life.", and "We moved only our personal home/estate and our building studio/experimental builds parcel."

Alchemy and I live in both places. InWorldz is our house in the country and Second Life is the big city where we commute to work, socialise, and enjoy the nightlife. Then at the end of the day when we are tired and ready to be alone at home, we go back to InWorldz.

As all of my building for the store starts in InWorldz first. Naturally our experiments show up there first. When products are retail ready, we release to BOTH grids at the same time. Second Life is where we started and we will always be there.

We will also be releasing, over time, items that are specifically needed in InWorldz only. Due to a smaller base of stores/designers, there are avie-related items that I want and cannot find, so have to build myself. It's strictly necessity building.

The biggest reason we are in InWorldz is financial. When Alchemy and I gave up our 5 sims in Second Life, it was purely a real world financial decision. Our sims were approaching the cost of a RL home mortgage and we did not have that money to spare.

If we could, we would have left our sims up for eternity in Second Life. When we gave them up, we lost our home, not just our retail shop. To remain in SL, we relocated our retail presence. We are still there...but we have been homeless for a long time.

A lot of people would simply say, just buy a small parcel and set it up. I tried that. It didn't work very well. I felt constrained by the theme of the other parcels. I didn't have enough room or enough prim, so we moved our personal home to InWorldz.

I found room for my imagination, with extraordinary prim counts and not much financial investment.

I don't expect people to follow us to InWorldz. This note is just for the few people that wonder if we will ever build sim environments again. The answer to that is yes, and we already are. If you want to see what we have going over there, I have experimental sea caves, ruins and soundscapes that are meant to be experienced with a particular windlight setting and water, and explored with a particular playlist of music, that is on the sim now.

If all you are interested in is our shop, our brand is on both grids. Releases are synced to both grids.

...but for those times you miss just sitting in one of our landscapes, exploring and listening to music...we can offer that again. Don't get hung-up on it being a different grid. Think of it as a weekend trip to the country. You're on holiday. You're a tourist.

In my short time in InWorldz I have made a few observations. I have not found it to be as easy finding the really artistic and immersive sims OR find designers I really love by exploring. There are here but spread out in pockets.

    Quick Points:

    1. Because of the lower population, I find my time here more solitary than SL...but I'm here with Alchemy so this grid is appropriate for a private home.

    2. Because uploads are free, land is cheap, and transferring creations between grids is pretty easy, this is a haven for builders like me.

    3. Sculpt bounding boxes respect their visual shapes so additional invisible prims/setting to phantom is not necessary.

    4. Mesh is here in the beta client and I have brought mesh in easily.

    5. One of my biggest worries was that I would not have an AV that looked good. Alchemy and I are vain I suppose. LOL But that worry is unfounded. It simply took a little longer to find what we wanted. There are just enough big designers here that we got our AVs set up in a day.

    6. You can bring in Lindens and exchange them into the local currency, which are IZ's (pronounced Izzies). So we found nearly everything here priced at half of what we were used to. We use InBiz to exchange IZ's in and out of Second life. It's a 2 way transfer.

    7. Our windlight settings are already in the stock client. We gave permission for that a long time ago ironically.

    8. InWorldz CAN be immensely ugly, just as SL can. But as designers we control our own environments and one of the best things you can do is change your windlight settings immediately. We use and have designed our environments to be experienced with windlight set to "Shadow1" and the water set to "glassy.

    ...then, come visit us:

A Note from Immortalis Cyannis ...

There is magic in water. I grew up near the sea and some of my greatest boyhood memories revolve around roleplay of old sea myths and stories. From ancient myths of fantastical sea creatures and gods to later legends of the sunken continent of Atlantis, the imagination of my youth had great influence on the man I am today.

I remember walks along the sand in the mist, and off in the distance were great monoliths and sentries risen out of the the distant gray.. They were always just out of reach, protected by the swirling jets and eddys. Dangerous and just out of reach but surely populated by those fantastical sea creatures and gods.

I spent many hours staring out at the ocean.

Now I live in a desert, and although physically the ocean is hundreds of miles away, when I revisit these environments virtually, my imagination knows not the difference.

The Coastal Rock Formation is one linked object with unique textures on all sides. This allows you to turn it this way and that, mash duplicated together in all sorts of configurations to make a maze of sea caverns of your own...or simply to stand alone as monolithic islands in the surf.

Along with the on-sim object, I have 4 off-sim coastal rock formations. Each of the 4 off-sim objects are the same formation, but rotated 90 degrees, so you don't have to rotate it yourself.

NEW AT AI: The Ruins Alcove

This pack ships with 2 different versions of The Ruins Alcove one with an open back, and one with the back closed. The open back version can be handy when you use it as a merchandising tool in a shop or museum if the alcove is set against a wall. If someone was to step into it, or navigate in with their camera, the open back version will look closed from the front view, but will not trap the camera once inside. This can reduce the frustration of guests viewing items within it when it's flush against a wall.

Additionally, we have included a light prim that you may wish to tuck near the bottom of your alcove to add the warm, ambient glow that you see on our own display and in our adwork.

A terrific companion for our Coastal Rock Formation, Tidal Pool Wave and Ocean Soundscapes Pack!

    LAND IMPACT:

    • open back - 7 + invisiprim - 2 (if used for a walk-in display)
    • closed back - 8 + invisiprim - 2 (if used for a walk-in display)
    • optional ambient light - 1

    A Note from Immortalis ...

Originally this was not a retail product. Let me begin at the beginning.

When Alchemy and I gave up our 5 sims in Second Life, it was purely a real world financial decision. Our sims were approaching the cost of a RL home mortgage and we did not have that money to spare.

If we could, we would have left our sims up for eternity. When we gave them up, we lost our home, not just our retail shop. We relocated our retail presence in SL but we have been homeless for a long time.

A lot of people would simply say, just buy a small parcel and set it up. I tried that. It didn't work very well. I felt constrained by the theme of the other parcels. I didn't have enough room or enough prim. So we moved our personal home to InWorldz.

I found room for my imagination, with extraordinary prim counts and not much financial investment, to begin building again in a manner I was accustomed to. I call InWorldz my "country estate". I live in both, just as people commute into and out of the big city. For socialising, nightlife, work and many other things we are in SL. When I am building or it is the end of a long day, we go to our home in Inworldz.

Long story short, I am building again.

The Ruins Alcove came about as I was designing our private home. I wanted something solid and with layers of age. As the other pieces snapped into place(the sea caves, the ocean waves, and the sounds) the alcove evolved into a standalone item meant to blend into all of the coastal themed items.

So, this piece is the first of many more in the "ruins theme." The next pack to be designed is the much larger, and matching "bigger brother" building kit to create a more immersive and spacious environment.

The future building kit will be completed as a natural byproduct of building our personal home. Please look for it in the coming months. It's good to be back.

NEW AT AI: Tidal Pool Wave

This pack ships with 2 different versions of the wave: one with Full Bright turned on, for those who wish it, and one with it turned of for a greater level of realism.

The waves are identical except for that setting, and they are fully modifiable so that you can change any aspect of them you wish, such as size, glow, or colouring.

A terrific companion for our Coastal Rock Formation and Ocean Soundscapes Pack!

    A Note from Immortalis ...

When I build, I'm happiest when I can control every aspect of the build. Something I have not, up until now, taken control of is water. During the creation of the Sea Caves sim build, in InWorldz, I found myself on a grid where I didn't have the same tools I had in Second Life. I had to create water effects out of necessity.

If I was going to have to build water, I decided to include features I have been wanting for years in second life water. I wanted Full Bright off, slow (almost still) movement, and the ability to control all aspects of the prim myself, instead of being constrained by someone else's idea of what good water looked like.

This water is quiet. It is not flashy bright and screaming for your attention. For my purposes it was perfect. In the daytime, and at night, it is more realistic. My windlight settings change the mood of the world and often water looks frenetic when the ocean is calmer. This water plays much nicer with calmer worlds.

It can be resized to gently swirl around small rocks, stretched larger to encircle the base of coastal formations, or even larger to gently suggest offshore or deep ocean swirling currents (which are perfect in a bay). I use a large one for this purpose then layer smaller ones where needed for a more realistic look.

Because, I do not want to dictate which water looks better in your applications, that with Full Bright on or off, I leave that decision to you. This effect is mod & copy.
